Band Director: Michael Murphy
We are excited to have Marching Band performing at football games, parades, and Marching Band competitions!
The Biddeford and Old Orchard Beach High School have joined forces to become the Seacoast Marching Band and participate in the Maine Band Directors’ Association Marching Band Show, in which seven bands from the State of Maine, with more than 250 performers, compete.
Marching Band is beneficial for students in so many ways. Not only is it physical in nature, but it also teaches leadership skills and self-discipline while having cognitive developmental benefits. Current research suggests that the dual responsibilities of playing an instrument while simultaneously marching increases left and right brain development. In addition, participants boost their self-confidence, gain knowledge of their individual section role, and learn the value of a team as they understand what their function is in the ensemble as a whole. This creative musical performance, amidst a friendly competition, develops uniformity and motivates students to improve their skills--both musically and visually.
Program for Maine Band Directors’ Association Marching Band Show
The Seacoast Marching Band of Biddeford and Old Orchard Beach assemble a program that includes participant photos, show titles and musical repertoire, band member rosters, and advertisements from local businesses. Proceeds collected from the ads directly support the Marching Band program. Please consider placing an ad in our program. Any contribution is greatly appreciated.
