Electrical Technology

This program offers students a state and nationally recognized educational training curriculum that allows students to become licensed electricians, after successfully completing both years I & II. This program also benefits students who are interested in HVAC and alternative power careers. Through classroom activities and hands-on labs, students will study on-the-job safety, electrical theory, residential, commercial, and industrial wiring. The NCCER curriculum offers students the ability to continue their training after high school at locations across the country. Open to: Grades 11-12 ( Grade 10 with Instructor permission)

Credit: 4

Prerequisite: Strong, Basic Math Skills, Positive attendance history, and the ability to read, comprehend and write at the high school level are recommended for success in this program. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team helpful.

Description: This program offers students a state and nationally recognized educational training curriculum that allows students to become licensed electricians, after successfully completing both years of the program and the necessary related work hours in the field. This program also benefits students who are interested in electrical engineering, working at a power plant, HVAC, and alternative power careers. Through classroom activities and hands-on labs, students will study on-the-job safety, electrical theory, residential and commercial wiring techniques and standards. Students will be exposed to real world situations every day. Seniors may elect to return for year two as a post grad.

BHS Graduation Standards: Math & Science Credit

Description: This is the second year of the two-year Electrical program, with the option of a third year in postgraduate study. Areas of study include commercial and industrial wiring practices including mechanical conduit bending, motors, transformers and motor controls. Consists of level 2 & possibly 3 of NCCER curriculum.Students will be exposed to real world situations every day. Successful students in this program will meet the educational requirements for a State of Maine Journeyman’s Electrician’s license.

Electrical Technology Instructor

Mr Bouthillette is an alumni of this electrical program from 1986 and have been an electrician, engineer and sales & designer of electrical systems. He recently ran a company of 19 employees with 12 installation crew members on the road daily installing some of the coolest home and business automation platforms in the industry. He has been involved in designing and installing some of the largest amusement rides in Maine at Funtown USA and several other commercial and Industrial locations. He still designs automated homes, conference rooms and commercial systems for several electrical contractors here in Maine. He looks forward to meeting the future students who will be our next amazing electricians and electrical engineers.
